The Birth Of A Passion….

Last week I had the amazing pleasure of being featured in an article in the local paper highlighting my work.

It focused on my passion…..birth photography and since it is such a new option in this world I figured I’d spend a few moments explaining why birth photography is so important to me…..

It started last year after mentioning it lightly with friends of mine that were expecting. It took them all of 20 seconds to say yes and from that point I just waited for a phone call. Then 4 more clients, now friends….decided to hire me for their big day as well.

Getting to be a part of such a crutial and amazing moment…well, it’s humbling.

I watch the emotions unfold….the excitement…..

I warn my clients that I will do my job….but to be warned, I’ll cry because birth hold a special place in my heart. I’ve birthed 4 babies myself.

It is a mountain of emotions and I am so lucky to be able to capture the highs and lows and to provide that to my clients, my friends and that later on they can go back and watch how that whole day unfolded. To smile and cry and to know that they accomplished one huge miracle.

I’ve never had a client regret having me there for the day….just a few that regretted not having me there. It’s a huge decision to ask a complete stranger into the delivery room with you but after a consult meeting, you will easily see that I work for you. I flow by your rules and will always respect your decisions. I’m there to capture your moments and remain a fly on the wall during the entire process, unless asked.   I hope to open the worlds eyes and provide images to clients that will forever be cherished.

Just An Ordinary Miracle…..

I had another AMAZING opportunity 2 weeks ago.

I was hired to do another birth a few weeks/month back and on November 12th he entered this world!

He was blessed to have his siblings watching and waiting to welcome him the minute he arrived. This little brother is very lucky and so are his parents to have him. What a beautiful miracle birth is.

I had the pleasure of joining a  good friend in the delivery room last week. I finally finished the video and wanted to show it off.  Her strength astounds me. I cry everytime I watch it.

If I could just photograph births for the rest of my life I’d be a VERY happy me.

The Birth Of A Child.

I recently got to attend another birth. What a trooper mama was. Almost 38 hours of labour, mountains of hurdles and finally delivering a healthy 5lb baby boy.

Birth.

There is nothing more exciting than getting the call that your client is in labour. I got that call on Sunday, June 28th. I did a few errands and then made my way to the hospital. It was going slow……her water had broke at 7:30am and it was 8pm when I left for the night because there had been no progress, still 1 cm dilated.

At 6am I got another call to come back in.  So I jumped in the shower and took off. 2 of my kids were feeling sick, thankfully my hubby stayed home to get them better.

It was 10am that they got transferred to another hospital and 1:30pm when she finally got induced, after very little change over the past 30 hours.

Then the “party” got started!!!

Here we had just arrived to the new hospital.

Mommy was smitten and knew the 39 hours of labour was VERY WORTH IT!

Congratulations A & A! It was an absolute pleasure to have experienced every moment with you both.

I am looking forward to the newborn photo! :)

Remembering Those Moments……

It was not that long ago that I was in a labour room, watching the clock tick and waiting for the arrival of our final piece of the puzzle. Looking back I wish I would have done many things differently but there is one thing I will never regret…..that, was my closest friend in the room with me, taking photos of the entire process. I can look back and feel every emotion from that day. It’s moments I never want to forget.

Shortly after our daughter was born, my camera was in hand and I got to capture her wrinkly newborn skin, her siblings finally getting to meet her and her first smile.
